I've been thinking about this for some time and finally did a little research. Don't get me wrong on what I am about to convey. Any loss of life in war time is a bad thing. I support our troops over there 100%. I myself was in the military so in a way I have a unique perspective on this.
The media and politicians are running around saying that the number of American deaths is too high. They push that 3 000 deaths is intolerable. Let's put this into a little perspective.
We have been in Iraq for 4 years and we have lost approximatly 3,000 troops. It's sad, it really is, but look at the bigger picture. Vietnam war era was 10 years (1965 to 1975) we lost about 47,500 troops. Over 10 years that averages to about 4,700 a year. We've lost 3,000 in 4 years in Iraq. Do you realize that we loose over 20,000 Americans EACH YEAR to homicide in the United States? How about 30,000 deaths from suicide? How about 7,600 deaths from anti-inflamitory drugs like aspirin and ibuprofin?
We have lost only 3,000 troops in 4 years!
Let me restate what I said earlier. Any loss of life is sad and a bad thing.
So let me pose this question. If the media and politicians are so up in arms about loss of American lives why do we have so many deaths each year here in the good ole United States? If they really want to do some good for this country why not look at the statistics of deaths in this country and do something about it?
3,000 troops in 4 years is NOT BAD considering other factors. Still sad that it has to happen at all. That says a lot about our troops, their training, equipment and leaders over in the combat zones.
So here's a thought..The next time one country wants to go to war with another why don't we do this. Put the leader of each country and 4 other politicians from each country in a room. Lock the door and the last one standing wins! Certainly this would reduce the number of casualties would it not?
Just pondering....
