There is a clinical definition for what dreams are. Essentially it says they are a series of images, ideas, emotions and sensations occurring involuntarily in the mind during certain stages of sleep.
Eh..I’m not clinical. Dreams while you sleep or are awake are a pathway. Dreams can provide you with answers to difficult questions, let you look at past mistakes or achievements or give you a glimpse of a possible future.
Have you ever sat at work “day dreaming” back to when you were a child, teen or young adult? You are taking a look at your past. Sure you could say you are remembering what happened in the past and really you are but it is in a dream state you are doing this. Unlocking that part of your mind that you would otherwise not have access to. You are dreaming back to your mistakes and your good times. Often times this will happen when you have decisions to make.
Do you dream at night about your day? How about what tomorrow will hold? Maybe you are dreaming about that car you want, maybe multiple dreams playing out various scenarios. You get the car and people just stare because it’s such a great car. Or maybe it’s a nightmare because you dream you get in an accident as soon as you leave the lot or find you can’t make the payments because you lost your job. Whichever the case you are trying to make a decision on a difficult thing. You are playing out various possibilities. When you “wake” from this dream you will have a better understanding and clearer focus.
Do you dream about things you wish? Do you dream about your dreams? Dreams are really goals. They are places we want to go and things that we want. Do you dream about the big house, fancy car, riches, and happy life? Having dreams are good. Dreaming about your dreams gives you focus on them. Keeps them fresh and alive. Use them to your advantage. You can’t get anywhere if you don’t have a goal or a dream to strive for.
Someone once gave me something that said, “Dreams come true; without that possibility, nature would not incite us to have them.” I firmly believe that. Dreams can and do come true. They may not be immediate and they don’t just happen. Sure you have to work for your dreams. Do you love someone and want to be with them? Do you dream about the day you can finally have them in your life all the time? Do you dream about the passion? So you have a dream - to be with that person. Do you think they are just going to pick up on the vibe? Doubtful. You do need to work a little for your dreams to come true. They don’t just happen. Talk to the person, get to know them if you don’t already, understand them and yourself. A little work and that dream will come true. It won’t be overnight unless you are really lucky but you can have it.
Or maybe you dream about writing a book. Books don't write themselves. They take work on your part. Pick up that pen and paper or sit down at the computer and write. Use your dreams to write. No one needs to see them but they can help you get ideas and bring your muse out. Just remember that it does take work and comitment on your part just like a relationship. You get out what you put in. If you sit down and write a few pages and then set it aside for months you aren't going to get far. Just like seeing someone. If you don't talk to them ever you aren't going to have much of a relationship are you?
So dream until your heart is content. Dreams are good. They are windows to the past, present and future. You just have to be willing to reach for your dreams.
